Although the development of medical science regarding the pathophysiology of cardiovascular disease has developed, this disease remains the most common cause of death in the world. Heart surgery is quite beneficial for most patients. Various methods are used to optimize the results of cardiac surgery and reduce postoperative mortality. One way that can be done is to assess the patient's preoperative procedure before performing heart surgery. Preoperative assessment of patients who will undergo heart surgery includes four main things, namely history taking, physical examination, laboratory examination, and cardiology examination. Risk assessment is needed by the anesthetist to assess the patient's risk factors and how they affect the patient's mortality rate if done heart surgery. Scoring systems that are often used include the preoperative heart risk index from Detsky, the scoring system of the European System for Cardiac Operative Risk Evaluation (EuroSCORE), and the Cardiac Anesthesia Risk Evaluation Score (CARE). The American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the American Heart Association (AHA) compiled an algorithm regarding the approach to preoperative cardiac examinations.
