Journal of Educators and Education Personnel

The purpose of this study was to identify awareness, level of competence, and constraints of information literacy among non-formal education tutors in the Special Capital Region of DKI Jakarta. There are forty-seven (or 94%) respondents from the tutor population in DKI Jakarta. Data were collected using questionnaires and in-depth interviews. The research findings show that most respondents stated that they understood the terminology of information literacy. he respondents can evaluate and manage the information they find. Although these competencies do not meet information literacy standards, they can find information to meet their immediate needs. According to respondents, the biggest obstacle to information literacy lies in their own efforts and willingness, their lack of motivation and skills to find information. External constraints include lack of access to information (and facilities) infrastructure, and because of the high cost of information retrieval. To support tutors' tasks and activities, respondents stated that they needed courses and training, especially regarding information retrieval, foreign languages, computer recognition and internet access, research methodology, and scientific writing. This study recommends improving tutor literacy competencies, especially information retrieval, repackaging information, and writing skills.
