Abstract

Clay is a type of soil that has a small pore space and has adhesion,
so if it is burdened, a large decline with a long period of time. This too
because clay has a small permeability coefficient (k), so water
takes a long time to get out of the cavity between soil particles. The magnitude of the coefficient
permeability depends on the average pore size which is influenced by shape and size
particles and soil structure. Some researchers have discussed and provided much
empirical clay coefficient of permeability (k) range of around 10-3
cm / second to 10-9 cm / second, but in reality, these results are not a thing
absolute. Value (k) itself has different results with several tests.
Soil permeability coefficient (k) is used to determine the amount of seepage on
problems of dams, irrigation canals, earth dikes, infiltration wells and others. With
compare the permeability coefficient between the original soil sample from the field and
the range value given by the literature, it is expected that the results can be used for
predict the initial value of the permeability coefficient.
This study was conducted to compare the permeability coefficient value (k) of the falling head test
and consolidation test results. Samples were taken from the Wates area for 5 points, depth
around -1.00m and around -2.50m (10 points). Each Oedometer and Falling Head are tested.
The results of the BH1 to BH5 study, the permeability coefficient of the falling head test results between
7,96.10-7 cm / sec until 1,14.10-6 cm / sec and the results of the consolidation test between 1,002.10-7 cm / s
up to 3,08.10-7 cm / dt. The value of both between 10-7 cm / dt to 10-6 cm / dt so that it matches the value
k given by Bowles (1991), Perlof & Baron (1976) and Casagrande (1938). From
test results, get the relationship of the oedometer permeability coefficient 4.8 times greater than
falling head results.
