Abstract

Background: Development and growth in infancy is a determinant
successful growth and development of children in the next period. Diarrhea
become one of the diseases that cause malnutrition and mortality in
child. Globally, every year there are around 2 billion cases of diarrhea with numbers
1.5 million deaths per year.
The research aims to: Look for the relationship of acute diarrhea to change
body weight in children under five years in the inpatient installation of Kepahiang General Hospital
in 2012.
Method: This study used a non analytic observational approach
experimentally conducted by retrospective cohort method, i.e.
describe the relationship of acute diarrhea with changes in body weight in toddlers
ages 12-59 months from January to December 2012 at the RSUD
Kepahiang. The number of samples is 66 toddlers, collecting data with
using secondary data in the form of medical records. Data analysis using test
Fisher.
Results: Statistically there was no significant (significant) relationship between
changes in body weight with the incidence of diarrhea in infants in Kepahiang General Hospital.
Also obtained RR value = 1.33, (95% CI = 0.843-1.111) this value means in
the population does not have different incidence of disease in exposed groups and not
exposed, or in other words the value is not significant due to the RR value
in the sample population taken includes number 1 which means there is no influence
diarrhea conditions for changes in Toddler's weight.
Conclusion: This study shows there is no meaningful relationship
between acute diarrhea and changes in body weight in toddlers in inpatient installations
Kepahiang Hospital
