SARAL AltiKa radar altimeter measures sea level height along a land track that is regularly reviewed with repeated cycles. We devised an automatic method of “stacking” repeat cycles that aligns it to a common position along the track model, selects segments that pass quality criteria, removes non-geoidal heights and high errors from each repeated profile, and calculates the median altitude profile. This procedure strengthens the geoid signal while reducing the measurement noise and altitude signals generated by ocean dynamics. An underwater detection filter applied to the median profile reveals 75,208 possible small volcanoes along the AltiKa land tracks globally. Of these, 4824 are above the multibeam survey. Seamount height is estimated by reducing the regional depth of the multibeam depth following the distribution of Poisson statistics which shows at least 84% less than 2 km high. Sampling along 1 km of stacked replication cycles is available from the National Center for Environmental Information (NCEI) data storage center.
