Two expeditions to Dorado Outcrop on the east side of the East Pacific and west of Central America. Trench collects images, videos, rock samples and sediments and measures the temperature and discharge rate to document the physical and biogeochemical characteristics of an area. , low temperature hydrothermal system (~ 15 ° C). Video and image analysis identifies lava morphology: flow of pillows, lobes, and sheets. Glasses from lava collected are consistent with the off-axis formation. Hydrothermal release generally occurs through lava pillows, but is uneven, sporadic, and sometimes stops at certain release sites. Temperature measurements for a year at these five disposal sites indicate a daily range oscillating with tidal frequencies of 6 ° C or more. The instantaneous liquid discharge rate (0.16 to 0.19 L s.  -1 is determined so as to produce a count of ~ 200 L -1 when integrated in the area determined by the strongest releasing fluid . The discharge has a power output of 10-12 MW. Hydrothermal seepage through thin sediments adjacent to outcrops contributing 13 C in the low but varied organic solids phase indicates that hydrothermal fluids provide a source of manganese accumulation and possibly increase organic carbon oxidation. Comparison of physical and geochemical characteristics in Dorado and Baby Bare Outcrops, the latter being the only pointy side hydrothermal release site that has been sampled directly, showing similarities and differences that have implications for future discoveries.
