Purpose: Patients with rheumatologic disease have higher levels of cardiovascular disease. Accelerated atherosclerosis and early coronary artery disease have been important causes of death and hospitalization in patients who might associate metabolic changes in lipids. This study was designed to clarify cardiovascular risk in children with idiopathic juvenile arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus and its relationship to lipid profiles and disease activity index. Methods: We measured lipid profiles (cholesterol, triglycerides, low and high density lipoproteins), erythrocyte deposition rates and C-reactive protein in 15 patients with JRA (group 1) and 15 patients with SLE (group 2) and in 30 normal children ( group 3). Results: The current study showed that there were no significant differences between group 1 and group 3 in total cholesterol, triglycerides, low and high density lipoproteins, but there were statistically significant differences between groups 2 and 3 in total cholesterol, triglycerides, low density . lipoprotein (p.
