Abstract : Widespread use
inappropriate antibiotics are a major issue in public health and
patient safety. The main problem with antibiotic use in children is determination
type of antibiotics, dosage, interval, and route of administration. Research aims to
find out the percentage of rational antibiotics (category 0) and what types
irrationality (category II-V), and to know the relationship of rationality
antibiotic use with the outcome of the therapy achieved. Research is
observational research using cohort methods. Retrieval of data on
the research was conducted retrospectively and prospectively during the November period
2014 to February 2015. Study samples were pediatric patients on wards
inpatient Sultan Agung Semarang Hospital, which meets the criteria
inclusion. Evaluation of antibiotic rationality using the Van der Meer method and
Gyssens was then analyzed descriptively. Relationship between rationality
antibiotics with therapeutic outcomes were analyzed using Chi-square with levels
95% confidence. Results of evaluation of antibiotic use in 385 regimens
showed 23.9% of rational antibiotic use. This type of irrationality,
namely category V (8.6%); category IV A (22.3%); category IV C (20%); category
IV D (1.6%); category II A (44.4%); category IV B (37.7%). Analysis results
the relationship of rationality with therapeutic outcomes shows no relationship
between the rationality of antibiotic use and the outcome of therapy (p> 0.05).
