Effects of Physical Exercise on Cardiac Remodeling

Physical exercise is very beneficial for healthy individuals as well as those who are at risk for Cardio Vascular Disease (PKV). Regular physical exercise reduces the risk of PKV by: reducing triglycerides, increasing HDL cholesterol, lowering blood pressure, increasing glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity, reducing body weight and reducing the inflammatory response. Basically there are two ways to distinguish between physiological and pathological cardiac hypertrophy: pathological LV remodeling accompanied by LV dysfunction (both diastolic, systolic, or both) and increased imbalance between muscle mass and angiogenesis, whereas physiological LV remodeling improves ventricular function and there is a balance between muscle mass growth and angiogenesis. Physiological cardiac hypertrophy has a cardioprotective effect and is not associated with heart failure. While pathological hypertrophy is associated with the severity of cardiovascular disease which causes an increased risk of heart failure, arrhythmia and ending death.
