HIGH ANALYSIS OF SEA WAVES IN BENGKULU WATERS FOR 10 YEARS (2006-2015) USING WAVEWATCH III WAVE MODEL DATA.

Abstract

The territory of Indonesia is called a maritime continent because it consists of thousands of islands bordered by the sea with generally mountainous topography. The purpose of this study was to analyze spatially and temporally high and patterns of changes in ocean waves in Bengkulu waters for 10 years (2006-2015). The method used in this study is the spatial and temporal analysis of monthly results of significant wave height (Hs) from the WaveWatch III wave model. The analysis carried out covers the characteristics of the wave height each month and determines the pattern of wave height changes in a period of 10 years (2006-2015). The results showed that the significant wave height (Hs) of the Wavewacth III (WW3) wave model simulation data in Bengkulu waters experienced the highest peak in August at the time of the Australian monsoon in June-July-August (JJA), which reached an average of 2, 4-2.7 meters, in this season the fetch that is formed is longer for the area in the South equator. For the transitional season, namely when the March-April May (MAM) and September-October-November (SON) periods of significant wave height (Hs) in Bengkulu waters increased compared to the Asian monsoon due to the transition season the sun's position was around the equator so that erratic and inconsistent winds formed. The trend of Hs in Bengkulu waters for 10 years (2006-2015) decreased which ranged from 0.1 to 0.4 m. This decrease is likely due to a decrease in wind speed that occurred during the transition phase that occurred during the 2011 period.
