Downtown is an urban place that always attracts people to visit or work. These activities produce pedestrian traffic that needs to be managed by providing transition space. So far, the need for transitional space in urban Indonesia has not been clearly regulated and is considered related to the design of the transitional space that can be used by pedestrians in the city center. In addition, there are no studies related to aspects that need to be considered in the needs of urban transitional space design from a pedestrian perspective. This study aims to design transitional space requirements in the CBD through the approach of visitor preference and pedestrian workers. In addition, the physical aspects / design elements that need to be considered are the conditions, potentials and factors that influence the existence of the transition place. The field study and analysis found that visitors and workers found in the central area of Bandung preferred the type of pedestrian mall as a transitional space. Furthermore, the design principles for the transition space consist of components of form, access and character of space.
